Boxing is a very controversial sport, it always has been and I think it always will be. This of course is due to the fact that the sport entails two people to punch each other in the head and body which can of course be very dangerous and in some cases fatal. However there are many sports that result in injury and can also be very fatal, take Bob sleighing for instance, 2-4 bodies travelling down hill in a bath at 95 mph is not what I would call a safe sport. In fact only last February Georgian born Nodar Kumaritashvili died only aged 21 years old from the sport.

People get injured everyday doing the most simplest tasks such as climbing a ladder or running for a bus, at least when Boxers put their lives in danger, they get injured or die doing something that they love. Boxing is a great sport and has inspired people for generations. When a Boxer is killed in the ring people are quick to judge and call it a waste of life but I strongly disagree. Boxers like Leavander Johnson and Frankie Campbell did not die in vain, they died doing something that they loved and were an inspiration to all. Take the famous Muhammad Ali, he inspired not only Africa and America with his fights, but he inspired people from all around the world. If he had died because of the sport, would people say that he had wasted his life after everything that he did inspiring and changing the world, I think not.

Boxing is more than a sport, it is the fight of the Gladiators, and when youngsters die from doing something that they love the last thing people should say or think is that they wasted their lives. Instead people should say how proud they are of these courageous young men doing something that they love and are passionate about. There is no difference in my eyes between a soldier and a Boxer, both train their hardest in doing something that they love, both are putting their health and lives at risk and yes a soldier helps make the world a safer place, but so does a Boxer in his or hers own way by inspiring those around them. I know that soldiers made my country safe for me to grow up as a child and I will always be in their debt, but it was Boxers like Nigel Benn and Frank Bruno that inspired me as a child, it was Boxers like Barry McGuigan that put me on the right path in life, and it is Boxing that can get the kids of the streets and actually save lives by teaching children discipline and giving them the tools to stay fit and healthy.

How fast do these Formula One drivers travel nowadays, around 220 mph I think it is, now that is fast and dangerous and has its fatality's also. The actor Christopher Reeves became paralysed falling from a horse and sadly this is the kind of thing that happens to people. So is Boxing dangerous? yes it is, but is it worth it? of course without any doubt. We can't go through life scared to do things incase we die, because we are all destined to die at some point anyway. Boxing, mountain climbing, Bob sleighing and even falling of a horse, if it is doing the things that we love that harm us then so be it.

In boxing, actual fighting in the ring is a small part of the sport. The training regimen is among the most difficult in sports. Most of a fighter's time is devoted to mental and physical conditioning. For every minute a boxer spends in the ring, he (or she) spends many thousands of minutes running, working on coordination and timing, and numerous other exercises.

Also, it must be noted, that good boxers work on mind development as well as body work. It is true that boxing is 90 per cent mental and 10 per cent physical. The third factor in boxing training is 'will power'. This can be the factor that makes a good boxer a champion. In a close fight, "Will beats Skill".
